Young man admits to stealing Skittles from One Stop store

A 26-year-old man described as “vulnerable” has admitted to stealing two boxes of Skittles from a One Stop store in Wolverhampton.

Luke Wigley took the sweets, valued at £37.50, from the shop located on Oxley Moor Road. The incident was caught on CCTV, and Wigley pleaded guilty to the offence at Dudley Magistrates' Court on 30 July.

At the hearing, it was revealed that Wigley was already in custody awaiting sentencing for multiple theft-related offences. His defence lawyer, Sundip Murria, highlighted Wigley’s vulnerability and past struggles with class A drug addiction. He explained that drug dealers had influenced Wigley to commit various shop thefts, which led to his current incarceration.

Mr Murria added, “He has done the right thing in pleading guilty at the first opportunity.”

The stolen items have not been recovered. Wigley was ordered by the court to pay a compensation amount corresponding to the value of the stolen sweets, £37.50.
