A young man from Birmingham has been disqualified from driving after dangerously evading police while behind the wheel of a friend’s car without insurance. Zeeshan Ahmed, 23, of Beaufort Avenue, was caught driving a Mini Paceman recklessly along several roads including Aldridge Road, Birchfield Road, the A34, and Victoria Road in the early hours of 15 July.
Birmingham Magistrates' Court heard that Ahmed had only been driving for about five minutes when the police started pursuing him. He pleaded guilty on 25 August to charges of dangerous driving, failure to stop for police, possession of a class B drug, and driving without insurance.
Ahmed explained that he borrowed the vehicle to visit his girlfriend but was not insured to drive the car. His solicitor, Mr Vesey, stated that Ahmed holds a clean driving licence with no penalty points and owns his own vehicle. The decision to flee from police stemmed from the lack of insurance coverage for the borrowed car.

During sentencing, Judge Hayles imposed a nine-month driving ban and emphasised that once Ahmed’s disqualification ends, he could expect “very, very expensive” insurance premiums. Ahmed was also given an 18-month community order, requiring him to complete 15 rehabilitation activity days and 150 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, he must pay a combined total of £199 to the court.
The judge noted there would be no separate penalty for the insurance offence, but his licence will receive an endorsement, further affecting future insurance applications. Ahmed’s case serves as a cautionary example of the consequences of driving uninsured and attempting to evade law enforcement.
