A 22-year-old woman who threatened an adult with a knife outside a Birmingham primary school has been spared a prison sentence. The incident took place on February 10 this year outside Brownmead Primary Academy in Shard End. A member of the school staff promptly contacted the police, who arrived quickly to manage the situation. The victim was an adult, not a pupil, and the school confirmed that the children remained undisturbed by the event.
Capri Anderson, from Shard End, was arrested and admitted to threatening a person with a blade on school premises. During a court hearing in June, concerns over Anderson’s significant mental health issues led to the case being adjourned for psychiatric and probation reports.
On September 30, Anderson appeared at Birmingham Crown Court where, despite earlier warnings of possible imprisonment, she was instead given a community order. The sentence includes a six-month alcohol treatment programme and up to 30 days of rehabilitation activity. While Anderson has spent several months in custody this year on remand, the court did not impose a custodial sentence at this time.

Wendy Carter, headteacher at Brownmead Primary Academy, stated the school took precautions to ensure pupil safety following the incident. She praised the swift response of staff and police, and assured that the children were unaffected. Parents and carers were informed about the precautions taken, with thanks extended for their continued support.
