Woman Escapes Attempted Kidnapping in Wigan City Centre

Police are investigating a frightening attempted kidnapping that took place in Wigan city centre on the morning of Friday, January 9. A woman was reportedly grabbed and threatened by an unidentified man as she walked along Central Park Way between 6:05 and 6:20 a.m.

According to Greater Manchester Police, the suspect tried to force the woman to accompany him, but she managed to break free and escape to safety before the man fled the scene. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall, wearing grey jogging bottoms, black trainers, a yellow hi-vis vest, and a black beanie hat.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Partington of GMP’s Wigan Criminal Investigation Department emphasized the seriousness with which the police are treating the case. “We understand that incidents like this cause significant concern in the community. The safety of the public remains our highest priority,” he said. GMP has increased patrols in the area and is urging anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to come forward.
