Woman, 21, Dies of Hypothermia After Hiking Accident on Mount Marcy

Brianna Mohr, a 21-year-old outdoor enthusiast, tragically succumbed to hypothermia after a hiking accident on Mount Marcy, New York’s highest peak. On February 12, Mohr slipped and fell while hiking with her dog in the Adirondacks amid harsh winter conditions, where temperatures ranged between -22°C (-8°F) and -6°C (20°F).

Following her fall, she contacted emergency services around 3 p.m., but despite immediate deployment of New York State Forest Rangers, search efforts were hampered by severe weather and cloud cover. Rescue teams utilized snowmobiles and a helicopter attempting to locate her; however, she was found only six hours later near the summit, already deceased.

Her loyal dog survived unharmed and was rescued. Police confirmed hypothermia as the cause of death. Brianna was well-known for her love of remote adventures across the United States, often sharing photographic journeys of iconic wilderness destinations such as Mount Washington in New Hampshire and Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
