Dr Hassan Ashraf, a GP from Wolverhampton’s West Park Surgery, found a unique way to tackle the challenge of managing screen time with his two young children. Motivated by the desire to spend meaningful, screen-free moments together, he developed an innovative activity book that encourages learning through creativity.
Understanding the importance of limiting screen exposure—especially following guidelines recommending no screen time for children under two and no more than one hour a day for those aged two to five—Dr Ashraf aimed to offer parents and children a fun alternative. His creation, titled Alphabet Animals: Trace the Letters, Colour the Critters, combines educational and artistic activities designed for kids aged 3 to 7.
“I’m a GP and a parent who experiences the same screen temptations at home as many families do,” Dr Ashraf explains. “Creating this book was a way to help my children develop pencil grip, letter recognition, and fine motor skills while simply having fun.”

The book features traceable letters and charming animal illustrations, offering toddlers a quiet and engaging way to slow down, focus, and express themselves. Dr Ashraf’s goal was not just to occupy children but to foster their creativity and learning away from digital screens.
Inspired by how much his own kids enjoyed the activities, Dr Ashraf now shares this resource with other families seeking an easy and enjoyable method to nurture their children’s development. Alphabet Animals: Trace the Letters, Colour the Critters is available on Amazon for £7.89, providing a practical and enriching option for parents to replace screen time with creativity and connection.
