Plans have been submitted for a new convenience store and the reopening of a pub at the site of the former Berry Brook Farm public house in Cannock Road, Wolverhampton. The application, made by Shireland Inn Ltd to Wolverhampton City Council, proposes the development of a store on the site’s car park to support the renovation of the currently closed pub into a modern gastropub.
The Berry Brook Farm pub, which closed its doors in 2024, would benefit from the additional investment, with the existing car park set to be extended into the former beer garden area to accommodate expanded parking facilities. The submitted documents highlight that the new convenience store is intended to underpin the refurbishment and transformation of the pub building.
An accompanying statement to the application explained that the proposal includes improved hardscaping, landscaping, parking, and other associated infrastructure enhancements. It further noted that discussions with potential retail occupiers have already taken place, indicating strong market demand and reducing the risk of speculative development.

The proposal is intended to have minimal impact on the surrounding community, as it makes use of an existing commercial site and revives underused land. Additionally, the convenience store is expected to provide a valuable local amenity for nearby residents.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the property had been acquired by Soho Taverns, a pub group known for operating Indian desi pubs across the Black Country, Birmingham, and the West Midlands. The site had been listed for sale at £850,000 in 2025 before this acquisition.
