Parents in the West Midlands can enjoy affordable family outings this summer thanks to a significant Government initiative that cuts VAT from 20% to just 5% on popular family activities. This reduction applies to cinema and theatre tickets, attractions, and children’s meals, making quality entertainment more accessible during the school holidays.
The VAT cut started on June 25 and will run until September 1 across the UK. Families simply need to visit the Government’s Summer Savings website and enter their postcode to find nearby participating venues offering discounts.
In Birmingham and the Black Country, several popular venues are taking part. For instance, many Nando’s locations offer 15% off the children’s menu, with some restaurants providing free meals for kids.

Attractions are also more affordable. For example, midweek tickets at the National Sea Life Centre in Brindley Place are now as low as £16, with combined adult and toddler tickets reduced to £16.62, down from £19. Main cinema chains across the region have also introduced discounted tickets, making movie outings more budget-friendly.
Adding to the savings, children aged 15 and under in England are eligible for free bus travel throughout August, easing transport costs for families.
A Government spokesperson stated: “We know that families across the country are feeling the impact of the cost of living – it’s the number one issue impacting working people. That’s why we’re taking action to reduce everyday costs and make family days out more affordable.”
With these discounts, West Midlands families can enjoy a memorable summer without worrying about the costs.
