The empty former McDonald’s restaurant on West Bromwich High Street is set to be transformed into a vibrant 24/7 casino and tanning salon. Shipley’s, a well-known local gambling operator, plans to relocate its West Bromwich casino to this new location in Duchess Parade, replacing its current premises in Kings Square.
Alongside Shipley’s casino, Tan Express will open a new tanning salon on the first floor, with both businesses operating around the clock. The £600,000 refurbishment project is expected to create 14 new jobs, injecting fresh life into a once-vacant commercial unit.
Sandwell Council planners have approved the application, citing the benefits to the town’s evening economy and the positive impact of bringing a long-empty property back into use. Their statement highlighted that both the bingo premises and tanning studio’s 24-hour operation would support the viability and vitality of West Bromwich town centre.

The planning application emphasized the suitability of the location for these uses, noting that the experienced licensee will ensure the site’s operation respects the local community’s amenity, health, and safety. Measures will be in place to prevent noise disturbances, anti-social behaviour, or other negative impacts often associated with late-night operations.
This development represents a sustainable and responsible investment in West Bromwich’s town centre, promising to enhance security, create jobs, and safeguard the area from long-term vacancy. The new Shipley’s casino and Tan Express aim to become key contributors to the local economy, welcoming visitors around the clock.
