West Bromwich Albion fans have been issued a travel warning following a massive fire in London, just under two miles from The Valley, where their team faced Charlton Athletic tonight.
The Baggies suffered a late 1-0 defeat, with Sonny Carey scoring a stoppage-time winner for Charlton. Adding to the fans' evening challenges, a large fire erupted in Greenwich, south-east London, potentially disrupting their journey back to the Black Country.
The blaze broke out at approximately 6:13 pm on Tuesday within an industrial unit on Tunnel Avenue, Greenwich, about an hour and a half before kickoff. Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are responding to the incident.

Residents nearby have been urged to keep doors and windows shut due to thick smoke drifting from the site. The London Fire Brigade has confirmed that traffic heading northbound toward the Blackwall Tunnel will face significant disruption as Tunnel Avenue and Blackwall Lane remain closed.
Firefighters are using a 32-meter turntable ladder to control the fire, with crews from multiple stations—including East Greenwich, Greenwich, Deptford, and Poplar—on scene.
While the fire’s cause remains under investigation, local authorities are actively managing the situation. Approximately 17,147 fans were present at The Valley, including several hundred travelling West Brom supporters.
Greenwich Park ward councillor Aidan Smith alerted the public via social media, advising avoidance of the area and noting bus route diversions. By 8:45 pm, the emergency cordon expanded, affecting bus routes 108, SL4, and 188, further emphasizing the scale of the disruption.
Fans returning from the match are encouraged to plan alternative routes and exercise caution as the clean-up and investigation continue.
