Week of Police Raids in Wolverhampton Targets Criminal Gangs Exploiting Vulnerable People

A major police operation in Wolverhampton has led to the seizure of drugs, weapons, and cash, culminating in 16 arrests connected to county lines drug supply networks.

The week-long national initiative focused on dismantling criminal gangs exploiting children and vulnerable adults to distribute Class A drugs. During 11 targeted raids across the city, officers recovered approximately 6-7kg of high-grade drugs, over 750 MDMA tablets, and significant quantities of cannabis.

Law enforcement also seized an estimated £30,000 in cash, alongside a firearm, five machetes, two knuckle dusters, ammunition, and an imitation firearm discovered during proactive stop-and-searches.

Of those arrested, 10 individuals faced charges including possession with intent to supply, firearm possession, and cannabis cultivation. Police additionally inspected properties suspected of being “cuckooed”—where vulnerable residents are exploited to facilitate drug operations—to provide necessary support.

Efforts extended beyond enforcement: investigators reviewed missing children’s cases to identify exploitation patterns, while officers engaged with primary and secondary school students to raise awareness about the dangers associated with county lines.

Chief Superintendent Anthony Tagg, overseeing local policing in Wolverhampton, emphasized the importance of national action weeks, stating, “These initiatives shine a light on the risks and harm caused by county lines. Our communities face these challenges daily, and we are dedicated to protecting the vulnerable and prosecuting offenders.”

He further highlighted the value of collaboration, noting that working closely with partners enables both decisive law enforcement and support for individuals exiting custody, offering pathways away from criminal involvement.
