What began as an ordinary night delivering for a local Chinese takeaway ended in tragedy for Yasar Abbas. On that fateful evening in April 2013, the 28-year-old father of two from Birchills, Walsall, was lured into a deadly trap by three masked assailants waiting in Alumwell.
Mr. Abbas was subjected to a savage attack, hacked with what is believed to have been an axe or meat cleaver. Despite fighting for his life, he succumbed to his injuries four days later in hospital. His murder shocked the community and sparked a determined investigation by West Midlands Police’s murder squad.
Although ten people were arrested during the initial inquiry, all were released without charges. A £10,000 reward was offered to generate leads, but the investigation stalled, and the case grew cold. Detectives believe the attack was planned and targeted, possibly connected to an earlier dispute between rival groups.

At the time, Mr. Abbas was delivering for Moon Palace Takeaway, and his wife was pregnant with their second child. His tragic death not only robbed a family of a husband and father but left a community searching for answers. Despite renewed appeals in 2015, no breakthroughs have been made.
Detective Inspector Gary Plant of West Midlands Police remains committed to solving the case, urging anyone with information to come forward, assuring confidentiality and the importance of bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Mr. Abbas’s widow, Shabnam Bi, expressed the family’s ongoing pain and desire for closure: “I just wish we could get some peace of mind by knowing his murderers are locked up.”
More than a decade later, Yasar Abbas’s killers remain free, walking the same streets while his family awaits justice and peace. The case stands as one of the region’s most harrowing unsolved murders, a solemn reminder of the community’s call for answers.
