‘Underrated’ Midlands Town Telford Named One of the Best Places to Live in the UK

Telford, a town in Shropshire often overlooked when thinking of the Midlands' highlights, has been named among the best places to live in the UK according to a recent study.

Despite not immediately coming to mind as a regional gem, Telford stands out for its quiet, peaceful environment and a host of qualities that contribute to an excellent living experience.

The study, conducted by Online-Casinos.com, evaluated various factors including green spaces, cleanliness, safety, and the general happiness of residents. Telford excelled across these categories, benefiting from its relatively low population density compared to other towns.

Nestled amidst beautiful countryside and close to the popular walking spot, the Wrekin, Telford offers residents a harmonious blend of nature and accessibility. It lies conveniently between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury, just off the M54 motorway, providing good road and rail connections to the Black Country and Birmingham.

Known locally for its well-loved shopping centre, peaceful town park, and the scenic Priorslee Lake, Telford’s appeal continues to grow. Remarkably, the study placed it second nationwide for quality of life, behind only Harrogate in North Yorkshire, and in a tie with Cheltenham.

Experts behind the study noted key differences between Telford and Cheltenham: while Cheltenham boasts the highest green space rating and a higher happiness score, it also has a much denser population. Telford combines strong cleanliness and safety ratings with significantly lower population density—675 residents per square kilometre compared to Cheltenham’s 2,600—which experts say contributes to a more relaxing, less crowded environment.

This balance of green space, safety, and low crowding makes Telford a standout choice for those seeking a high quality of life in the Midlands.
