UK to Endure Prolonged Snowstorm with Temperatures Plunging to -9C: Exact Start Date Revealed

The United Kingdom is bracing for a prolonged and intense snowstorm accompanied by freezing temperatures as low as -9°C. According to weather modelling from WX Charts, which utilizes the Met Desk’s data, snowfall is expected to last for approximately 90 continuous hours.

The snowy conditions are forecast to begin at midnight on January 27 and extend through to 6 pm on January 30, affecting a vast array of regions across the country. By the final day of the event, Inverness is projected to be one of the hardest-hit areas, with the possibility of accumulating up to 27 inches of snow.

Major cities and towns are already showing signs of the approaching snow, with weather maps turning white across locations including Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent, London, Southampton, Oxford, Reading, Cambridge, and Gloucester.

Additional urban centers facing significant snowfall include Leicester, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Blackpool, Dundee, Aberdeen, and Newcastle. Several counties in the north and northeast such as York, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Wick, Glasgow, Perth, Edinburgh, and Wick are also at risk.

The BBC Weather forecast for Friday, January 23, outlines the evolving conditions: “Tonight, turning drier and clearer in the southeast. Cloudy elsewhere with some patchy rain. Rain and hill snow continuing in northeastern Scotland. Windy with showery heavy rain in the southwest.”

Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast reads: “Sunday will be mainly cloudy. Northeastern areas will see spells of light rain, turning wintry on the hills. The southwest will still see some lingering showers. Monday will be colder and cloudy with a few wintry showers in the northeast. By evening, the southwest will experience breezy and wet weather. Tuesday will bring cloudy and wet conditions, particularly in the south, with snow on the hills.”

Netweather has highlighted the potential for very wet weather and strong winds in the northeastern UK over the coming days. An Amber warning has been issued for inland eastern Scotland due to concerns about heavy persistent rain and snowmelt triggering river flooding.

Additionally, southwestern Britain is expected to experience windy conditions on Friday as a low-pressure system from the Bay of Biscay moves in, further complicating the weather outlook.

Residents across the UK are advised to prepare for significant winter weather impacts as this extensive snow event unfolds.
