The UK is on alert for a potential snowstorm that could bring a White Christmas to parts of the country on December 25. Forecasters have indicated there is a “chance” of snowfall, with up to 12 cities across England, Scotland, and Wales at risk of seeing flurries as we approach Christmas Day.
The Met Office predicts isolated snow showers in southern regions, although these are expected to be limited and not widespread. Nonetheless, bookmakers are identifying several cities as likely candidates for a dusting of snow.
William Hill has named Edinburgh as the city most likely to experience a White Christmas, with odds of 5/1. The bookmaker notes, “Edinburgh Airport is currently at 5/1 for snow on December 25th, making it the standout selection in the Christmas Day weather specials market.” Earlier in the month, the odds stood as short as 6/4, but milder weather forecasts have since lowered the chances.

Lee Phelps, spokesperson for William Hill, commented, “Unseasonably mild weather has reduced the likelihood of a White Christmas this year. Edinburgh remains the most likely UK capital to see snow on December 25, but at odds of 5/1, the chance has declined notably from earlier estimates.”
Other cities including London, Cardiff, Belfast, and Dublin follow closely with odds around 6/1. However, residents in these locations might need to wait at least another year for snow on Christmas Day.
Additional cities named by bookmakers include Aberdeen (evens), Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, and Bristol, with odds ranging between 6/4 and 6/1.
Temperatures on Christmas Day are forecast to reach highs of 4-7°C (39-45°F), which is close to seasonal averages but represents a change following a relatively mild month. Strong winds, especially in southern areas, could make conditions feel colder.
