UK Snow Bomb Warning: Up to 69cm Falls Expected This Week

The UK is bracing for a major snow event this week as the next “snow bomb” has been upgraded to a staggering 69 centimetres in the Scottish Highlands, according to the latest weather forecasts. WX Charts, which utilizes data from Met Desk, indicates snow falling at an intense rate of up to four inches per hour in parts of Wales and Scotland.

England will also experience significant snowfall, with cities like Manchester and Birmingham among the areas expected to be hit starting January 27. Wales may see snowfall rates of one inch per hour, while the Peak District could face even heavier bursts of up to four inches per hour.

The snowstorm is forecast to begin around 9am, impacting Greater Manchester, the West Midlands conurbation, and the East Midlands. By mid-afternoon around 3pm, snow will spread further to south-west England, East Anglia, Wales, Northern Ireland, northern England, and Scotland.

Later in the evening, by 9pm, northern England could again witness snow accumulating rapidly at around four inches per hour. The heaviest snowfall is predicted in the Scottish Highlands, reaching depths of up to 69cm (27 inches).

According to the BBC Weather team, tonight will bring blustery rain moving northeast across the UK, turning showery in England and Wales. Northeastern Scotland will experience wintry showers under windy conditions.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, most of the UK will remain cloudy with some rain patches. South-west England will see steadier rain, while hill snow persists in north-east Scotland amid easing winds.

The outlook for Monday to Wednesday suggests unsettled and windy weather, especially across the south-west. Rain will become more widespread overnight Monday, turning wintry over the northern hills. Both Tuesday and Wednesday will continue with rainfall and hill snow in northern regions, maintaining challenging conditions nationwide.
