UK snow bomb to hit as far south as Birmingham, burying 11 counties

A powerful snow bomb is set to sweep across the UK, reaching as far south as Birmingham and covering at least 11 counties in heavy snowfall. According to WX Charts, which utilize data from the Met Desk, snowfall is expected to begin as early as Friday evening, continuing into December 6, following initial flurries reported on December 5.

The weather maps display extensive white, grey, and purple patches indicating snow accumulation stretching down to Birmingham and across the West Midlands. Counties expected to be hit include Durham, Cumbria, Northumberland, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Northamptonshire, North Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear, Staffordshire, the West Midlands, and Warwickshire.

In the short term, the Met Office forecast for Wednesday, December 3, advises: “Sunshine and showers today, then rain for a time tomorrow. Scattered showers will develop in the west, across the far north of Scotland, and across southernmost counties of England. Mostly dry with sunny spells elsewhere, once early fog clears. Temperatures near average, though breezy, especially in the north and west.”

For Thursday, December 4, the Met Office predicts: “Rain moving north and east across most areas. Brighter weather with showers developing across southern England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Remaining bright and showery across northeast Scotland. Breezy for many.”

Looking further ahead to Friday through Sunday, the outlook states: “Early fog, then bright and breezy, with fewer showers on Friday. Further wind and rain sweeping northeastwards through the day. Brighter with blustery showers on Saturday. Further rain on Sunday.”

This series of forecasts underscores the likelihood of a turbulent week ahead, marked by widespread snow and unsettled weather conditions across much of the UK.
