UK Snow Bomb to Blanket Nearly All of England Except 11 Counties

A powerful snow bomb is forecast to impact 90% of the UK later this month, bringing significant snowfall across most regions while sparing just 11 counties. Weather maps and charts from WX Charts, leveraging Met Desk data, show widespread snow accumulation, with some areas expecting up to 14 centimetres of snow.

Scotland will bear the brunt of the wintry weather, particularly in Moray and the Highlands, where snow depths could reach 14cm. Surrounding regions may see snowfall up to 12cm. Meanwhile, large swathes of England will also be affected — including the East Midlands, West Midlands, East Anglia, South West, North West, and North East. However, the South East remains mostly untouched by this event.

Counties expected to avoid substantial snow include Essex, Kent, Greater London, Surrey, Dorset, Hampshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, and Buckinghamshire.

According to the BBC Weather forecast for Tuesday 10 to Sunday 15 February: “The weather will be unsettled, turning colder for a couple of days. A complex low-pressure system will move out of the UK to continental Europe, while high pressure builds in northern regions, causing a shift in winds that will usher in colder air masses and temperatures below average, even in southern England.”

Wednesday and Thursday are predicted to remain unsettled, with rain and showers across many areas. Higher elevations in Scotland will experience snow showers, with traces of snow and sleet spreading to the hills and mountains of Northern Ireland, Wales, and northern England by late Thursday. The Midlands and southern England may see temporary wintry conditions on hills as the cold front passes, with sleet and snow showers affecting windward coasts.

Most regions should enjoy drier and clearer weather by Saturday, accompanied by sharp frosts in some places. However, a new frontal system arriving from the Atlantic on Sunday is likely to bring milder air and rain, although some sleet and snow may precede it over higher northern ground.
