UK Snow Bomb Brings Up to 18 Inches Across a 528-Mile Radius on February 13

A major snow event is set to blanket the UK in up to 18 inches (47cm) of snow, with WX Charts forecasting a significant snow bomb hitting on February 13. The expected snowfall will span a vast 528-mile radius, affecting areas from Edinburgh in the north all the way down to Newquay in the south.

Moray is anticipated to experience the heaviest snowfall, with up to 47cm predicted. Meanwhile, England is forecast to receive between 7 to 9 centimeters of snow, according to Met Desk data used by WX Charts. Temperatures will plummet, with lows reaching -8°C in the Scottish Highlands and around -2°C across much of England.

The Met Office advises that Sunday will be relatively drier for many regions, although showers are expected to drift in from the North Sea coasts and western areas. Skies will largely be cloudy but with occasional brighter intervals.

Deputy Chief Forecaster Stephen Kocher explains that the temperature contrasts in North America are intensifying the jet stream, which in turn strengthens low-pressure systems that bring unsettled weather to the UK. This dynamic is responsible for the recent stormy conditions and is expected to continue bringing unsettled weather into next week.

Chief Forecaster Rebekah Hicks adds that while the upcoming rainfall totals won’t match those of Storm Chandra, parts of the country already affected by flooding could see up to 25 mm of rain each day. Saturated ground means this may result in further travel disruptions and flooding in certain areas.

Residents are advised to prepare for challenging weather conditions as the UK braces for this widespread winter blast.
