A murder investigation has been launched into the death of Rhonda Anderson, whose body was discovered in her bathtub 25 years ago. On July 8, 2000, the 29-year-old woman was found dead at her home in the Briar Hill area of Northampton.
At the time, an inquest concluded that Rhonda’s death was accidental, attributing it to electrocution caused when a radio fell into the bathwater. However, new information has recently emerged, prompting police to reopen the case with a fresh perspective.
Detective Chief Inspector Torie Harrison of Northamptonshire Police confirmed that the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team has revisited the evidence. “Rhonda died in July 2000, and the coroner ruled her death accidental following an inquest. But recent developments this summer have led us to launch a formal murder investigation,” she said.

Authorities are now appealing to anyone who knew Rhonda at the time—friends, acquaintances, or others with relevant information—to come forward. DCI Harrison emphasized the importance of even seemingly minor details. “Though many years have passed, memories may still be clear, and every piece of information could be crucial in understanding what truly happened.”
Rhonda, who worked in retail and hospitality including a jewellery store and bar, had lived locally. Her family, deeply affected by this renewed inquiry, are receiving support from trained officers and have requested privacy during this challenging period.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111, referencing crime number 25000536509.
