UK households equipped with smart meters can enjoy up to £10 worth of free electricity on Christmas Day — but only if they act quickly. By signing up for the Power Hours scheme via the Uswitch app before 11.59pm on December 21, participants can get a refund on the electricity they use between 8am and 4pm on December 25.
The process is simple: download the free Uswitch app from the App Store or Google Play, connect your smart meter within minutes, and enroll in the Power Hours scheme. On Christmas Day, Uswitch will track your electricity consumption during the designated hours, calculate the cost based on your current electricity plan, and refund you up to £10.
Uswitch explained, “We know households are feeling the pinch, so we’re offering to pay you back for your Christmas Day electricity usage as a way to brighten the season.” If your electricity plan isn’t listed in the app, Uswitch will use your supplier’s Standard Variable Tariff (SVT) rates to determine the refund.

Refunds will be calculated and made available through the Uswitch app no later than January 31, 2026. While this offer won’t reduce your energy bill directly (you’ll still pay your supplier in full), think of it as a special holiday refund exclusively from Uswitch for this promotion.
With just 48 hours left to sign up, don’t miss the chance to make your Christmas energy usage cost a little less.
