UK households receiving certain benefits will receive a new £100 Cost of Living payment ahead of Christmas through the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Household Support Fund. These automatic payments are scheduled for December 2025 to provide additional financial relief during challenging times.
Eligible households include claimants of Council Tax Reduction, Income-based Employment and Support Allowance, Housing Benefit, Income Support, Pension Credit, and Universal Credit. Single claimants will receive a £75 voucher, while couples will be granted £100 per household.
Local councils, such as Middlesbrough Council, are administering the payments and may apply part or all of the payment directly to Council Tax accounts, reducing bills or arrears. This approach can help free up funds for essential expenses like energy bills and food.

Applicants need to submit an application form along with their most recent bank statement and payslips as proof of eligibility. Processing times may be up to 21 working days, and applicants are advised not to call during this period to avoid delays.
The Household Support Fund operates from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026, distributing funds in phases to prioritize those most in need. Additional government support is also available for individuals facing financial difficulties.
