UK Households Earning Under £27,000 to Receive Free £300 Supermarket Voucher

In a bid to support struggling families, Surrey Council is offering e-vouchers worth £300 to UK households with children, funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Household Support Fund. This initiative targets families facing financial hardship, providing essential assistance during challenging times.

Two types of one-off vouchers are available: £200 for single-person households and £300 for households with children. Only one voucher can be claimed per household.

To qualify, applicants must be residents of Surrey, aged 18 or over, with household savings averaging £2,000 or less over a 90-day period. Additionally, the scheme is open to households earning less than £27,007.50 annually before taxes and deductions.

Applicants are required to disclose their household’s financial details, including income and benefit information for partners residing in the same household. Evidence of income and circumstances may be requested to verify eligibility.

These e-vouchers can be redeemed in-store at participating supermarkets with specific restrictions. For example, at Aldi, vouchers cannot be used to purchase gift cards, lottery tickets, scratch cards, alcohol, or online orders. Asda excludes use in petrol stations and prohibits buying tobacco, stamps, lottery tickets, or phone top-ups with the voucher.

Other supermarkets have their own restrictions: Iceland does not allow vouchers to be spent on alcohol; Morrisons excludes purchases from their Daily stores, fuel stations, gift cards, and lottery products; Sainsbury’s restricts use on petrol stations, pharmacies, certain branded gift cards, tobacco products, and online services among others; Tesco vouchers are redeemable in-store but not at petrol stations. Waitrose stands out as the only store without any restrictions on voucher usage.

This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on low-income families by helping cover essential grocery costs during tough economic times.
