UK Foreign Office Identifies 47 Most Dangerous Countries for British Travellers

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued official travel warnings for 47 countries, advising British citizens to avoid travelling to these destinations either partially or entirely. This comprehensive list reflects a wide range of risks, including armed conflicts, security threats, humanitarian crises, abduction risks, and elevated chances of serious crime. In some nations, there is also an increased risk of UK citizens being detained.

The FCDO regularly updates its travel guidance, categorising warnings based on the level of risk. As of March 13, 2026, 47 countries fall under the two highest warning categories, signaling significant danger for travellers. These warnings are not limited to regions experiencing high-profile conflicts, such as those related to ongoing wars in Iran or Ukraine, but also cover multiple countries within Europe and other parts of the world.

The level of advisory varies; in some cases, the FCDO recommends that British nationals leave certain countries immediately due to escalating threats. Moreover, these warnings highlight situations where UK governmental assistance may be severely limited or unavailable, underscoring the seriousness of the risks faced by travellers.

Among the 47 countries listed, 11 are under strict advisories where the FCDO strongly urges against all travel. Additionally, there are other countries where travel is permitted only to specific areas, with the rest deemed too dangerous for visitation.

British citizens planning their travel should exercise extreme caution and consult the latest government advice to ensure their safety.
