The UK is preparing for a significant snowfall event this week, with advanced weather modelling indicating up to seven inches (18cm) of snow falling in parts of Scotland and substantial accumulations across England. Data from WX Charts, incorporating Met Desk information, forecasts a widespread snow cover as a cold Arctic flow moves in.
According to the Global Forecast System (GFS) data analyzed by WX Charts and corroborated by platforms like Ventusky, snow will begin to spread across Scotland and England from Wednesday morning. Northern Ireland and Wales are also at risk of experiencing wintry conditions as the cold front progresses southward.
Scotland is expected to bear the brunt of the snowfall, with accumulations potentially reaching seven inches, particularly in northern regions. In England, snowfall of up to 9cm is projected, with the Pennines identified as the most severely affected area. Regions including the East of England, North West, North East, and even London could see snow following early flurries in Scotland.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Holley explained the weather dynamics: “As Storm Claudia retreats southward, high pressure building to the northwest will usher in a cold northerly flow from the Arctic across the UK. This influx will bring much colder conditions than recent weeks, accompanied by a risk of wintry hazards such as snow and ice.”
Holley added, “Widespread frosts are expected with temperatures dropping as low as -7°C in some locations next week. Daytime highs will remain in single figures nationwide. Combined with brisk northerly winds, wind chill will make it feel significantly colder.”
This shift marks a stark change following a period of above-average temperatures. Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts closely, as warnings for snow and ice may be issued.
The Met Office’s forecast for Monday, November 17, notes: “Some showers are expected in the far north and along North Sea coasts, wintry in northern Scotland. Elsewhere, conditions will be mostly dry and sunny after a frosty start, with cold and breezy weather especially in eastern areas.”
