UK Braces for Two Snowstorms Within 72 Hours with Exact Start Times Revealed

The UK is preparing for two significant snowstorms arriving just days apart, bringing wintry conditions and disruption across multiple regions. According to advanced weather modelling from WX Charts, which utilizes the ECMWF system, snow will begin falling from 6am on Sunday, February 15.

The first wave of snow flurries is expected to impact the West Midlands, including Birmingham, as well as Greater London, Yorkshire, East Anglia, and Greater Manchester. Residents in these areas should be ready for snowfall early on Sunday.

Following this, a second, more intense blizzard is forecast to sweep across the UK on Tuesday evening around 6pm. This storm could see snow falling at rates of up to four inches per hour in some locations, according to the latest models.

Snow accumulation maps for February 18 indicate substantial snowfall, with the North Pennines potentially receiving up to 48cm (19 inches) and Northern Ireland seeing as much as 26cm (10 inches) of snow.

Meteorologist Jo Farrow of Netweather explains: “A shift in the stagnant weather pattern is expected in the latter half of this week, allowing colder air to move in behind a low-pressure system. This will bring frosty nights and some snow across the UK.”

She continues: “Friday night will be clear, followed by bright, sunny conditions on Saturday. However, this respite is short-lived as an Atlantic frontal system brings increasing cloud and rain from Saturday night into Sunday morning, initially falling as snow.”

On Wednesday, occluded fronts are bringing rain across northern England, Northern Ireland, and southern Scotland, which will gradually turn to snow over higher inland ground as colder air infiltrates the region.

According to the BBC Weather forecast: “Tomorrow will see rain across southern England and Wales, with snow possible over the hills. Scotland and northern England will experience cold weather with sunshine and snow showers, while Northern Ireland remains dry and bright.”

Saturday is expected to be crisp and bright except for some lingering wintry showers along east coasts in the morning. Cloud cover will build later in the day, with rain moving in overnight and into Sunday morning, turning to snow in parts.

Sunday afternoon and Monday will feature a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, continuing the unsettled weather into the new week.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather developments and prepare for potentially severe conditions brought on by these upcoming snowstorms.
