UK Braces for Three Major Snowstorms Delivering Up to 20 Inches Each

The UK is set to experience three substantial snowstorms this February, each potentially dropping up to 20 inches of snow, according to WX Charts forecasters using the GFS weather model. These intense weather events, dubbed “snow bombs,” are expected to impact various regions across the country with precise dates now confirmed.

The first snowstorm is forecasted to arrive on February 11, targeting northern England, north Wales, and Scotland with considerable snowfall. Shortly after, on February 12, a second snow event will focus on the southwest of England, including Greater London and the Home Counties, delivering further heavy snow.

The most widespread snowfall is expected on February 14, when the third and final snowstorm blankets nearly the entire UK. Meteorological maps depict this day with widespread purple shading, signaling extensive snow coverage.

Looking ahead to the week of February 9 to 15, the BBC Weather team highlights a notable drop in temperatures across the nation. A strengthening high-pressure system from the north and north-west will suppress milder weather fronts, allowing colder air to dominate.

This means even southern England will likely experience below-average temperatures, intensified by brisk easterly winds, making eastern coastal regions feel particularly chilly. While overall conditions are expected to be somewhat drier later in the week, occasional showers will persist, turning wintry over higher elevations and even lower parts of the northern UK.

Despite the significant snowfall predictions linked to the three February storms, meteorologists currently see no signs of additional major snow events beyond these. Periods of dry, calm weather will bring sharp overnight frosts and some fog risks, adding to the wintry conditions through mid-February.
