UK Braces for Intense Snowfall: Up to 11cm Per Hour Expected

The UK is preparing for a significant snow event later this month, with forecasts indicating that certain areas could experience up to 11cm of snow per hour. The wintry weather is predicted to begin on the evening of Friday, November 15, and continue through to the early morning of Monday, November 17.

According to WX Charts, which utilizes metdesk data, a substantial 122-mile band of snow is expected to sweep across northern England and southern Scotland. Weather maps show this region turning purple, highlighting the intensity of the approaching snowfall. The Scottish Borders are likely to experience the heaviest snowfall, with rates reaching as much as 11cm per hour.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for the period from November 12 to 21 describes an unsettled start to the period, featuring mostly mild conditions with rain moving across much of the UK, especially the western and southern regions. Winds may become locally strong alongside the rainfall. However, drier spells are expected, particularly towards the east and north.
