The UK is set to experience five days of heavy snow beginning December 27, as a cold spell reminiscent of the “Beast from the East” prepares to sweep across the nation. According to detailed weather maps and charts from WX Charts, this winter weather could turn this year’s Christmas into a white one.
Wintry conditions are expected from December 27 through December 31, impacting regions including East Anglia, the West Midlands, and the North East, particularly around Newcastle.
The snow will begin in the early morning of December 27 around 6 a.m., initially affecting Birmingham, the West Midlands, and Staffordshire. By afternoon, snowfall will expand from the east, reaching parts of Scotland. Later in the week, areas in the South West, such as Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, may also see snow.

Temperatures are forecast to plunge sharply by December 30, with WX Charts indicating they could drop to a bitterly cold -6°C. This will bring icy conditions across many parts of the country.
A BBC Weather forecast for December 22 to 28 anticipates a transition to drier and chillier conditions. It notes that high pressure building over Scandinavia will block the usual Atlantic weather fronts, leading to fewer heavy rains and strong winds but increasing the risk of colder air arriving from the northeast.
Although snow showers will mostly be restricted to higher elevations, the arrival of colder air and calm nights may lead to frost and fog in many areas. While a widespread white Christmas is unlikely, the days following holiday celebrations could see significant snowfall and much colder temperatures.
