UK Braces for Extensive Snow as Met Office Flags Five English Counties at High Risk

The UK is preparing for significant snowfall as the Met Office issues warnings for “extensive hill snow,” particularly affecting five counties in England. An incoming Atlantic storm is expected to batter the region with heavy rain and strong winds over the weekend.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates commented, “We have high confidence that the weekend will be unsettled. However, there is still some uncertainty about the exact path of the low-pressure system. Small changes in its track could greatly influence which areas experience the heaviest rain and strongest winds.”

As a result, some regions may face disruptive weather, while others might see milder conditions. The Met Office is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as forecasts become clearer.

Counties most at risk in England include Northumberland, Cumbria, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire. In Wales, Gwynedd, Conwy, and Denbighshire are expected to be affected. Scotland could also see flurries in the Scottish Borders, Dumfries, and Galloway.

Looking ahead to Friday, November 28, the Met Office forecasts bands of heavy showers moving southeast with a chance of thunderstorms. Southeast England is expected to remain mostly dry with sunnier spells, but conditions will feel fresher and windier. Evening showers will ease but give way to heavy rain in England and Wales, while northern areas turn chilly as skies clear.

For Saturday, November 29, heavy rain is predicted to move eastwards across England and Wales, accompanied by strong winds. Northern Ireland and Scotland will enjoy brighter conditions with a few showers. Sunday should see drier, brighter weather but colder temperatures.

The outlook for Monday indicates further heavy rain and brisk winds, with Tuesday bringing sunny intervals and blustery showers. Temperatures will hover around the seasonal average throughout this unsettled spell.
