UK Airports Dropping the 100ml Liquid Rule: Complete Guide

Several UK airports have now removed the long-standing 100ml liquid restriction for cabin baggage, streamlining the security process for travelers. This change follows the adoption of advanced CT scanners at airport security, enabling passengers to carry larger quantities of liquids on board without the usual limitations.

Notably, London Heathrow has joined airports like Gatwick, Birmingham, and Edinburgh in scrapping the 100ml liquid rule. Passengers flying from these airports can now carry up to two litres of liquids in their hand luggage without needing to remove them at security. Additionally, electronics such as laptops can remain in bags during scanning, speeding up the security checkpoint experience.

However, some major airports, including London Stansted, Luton, and Manchester, still enforce the 100ml liquid rule. At these airports, passengers must limit liquid containers to 100ml and remove them from their bags before going through security.

That means less time preparing for security and more time enjoying their journey.”

Exemptions continue to apply for essential medicines, baby food or milk, and special dietary requirements. Travelers should consult official sources like GOV.UK for the full list of exemptions and confirm the relevant rules at their departing airport in advance, as restrictions can change.
