UEFA confirm Aston Villa’s Super Cup squad amid Brian Madjo registration update

UEFA have officially confirmed Aston Villa’s current squad for the upcoming Super Cup fixture against Paris Saint-Germain. Unai Emery’s side secured their place by winning the Europa League in May, while PSG qualified by lifting the Champions League title after defeating Arsenal on penalties in Budapest.

According to UEFA regulations, both teams are required to submit their List A squads by 23:59 CET on 4 August 2026. However, teams can make amendments up to 23:59 CET on the day prior to the match, provided their national association confirms in writing that any new players are eligible to participate at the domestic level by the competition date.

The current Villa squad as confirmed by UEFA is as follows:

  • Goalkeepers: Martinez, Bizot, Wright, Asemota
  • Defenders: Cash, Nedeljkovic, Konsa, Lindelof, Torres, Mings, Maatsen, Bogarde, Cisse
  • Midfielders: Kamara, McGinn, Joao Gomes, Barkley
  • Forwards: Watkins, Abraham, Buendia, Garnacho, Guessand, Alysson

Johan Manzambi has been left out due to ongoing recovery from a knee injury. Both Leon Bailey and Lucas Digne are also not included, as they are expected to leave the club imminently.

A notable absence from the squad is Brian Madjo, who has impressed during pre-season by scoring four goals in five matches. Villa received approval to register Madjo only on Tuesday after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld their appeal, overturning FIFA’s initial refusal to register him.

While BirminghamLive has reached out to Villa regarding Madjo’s omission and awaits a response, it is speculated that the squad was submitted before the club was officially notified of the successful appeal, which authorised Madjo’s registration. Given UEFA’s allowance for squad changes up until the day before the match, there remains a possibility that Madjo could be included in the final team against PSG.

Additionally, younger players George Hemmings and Luka Lynch might be named in Villa’s List B squad, which does not have a submission deadline until 23:59 CET on 4 August 2026. According to UEFA rules, players born on or after 1 January 2005 who have been continuously eligible to play for the club for at least two uninterrupted years since their 15th birthday, or three consecutive years in total (allowing a loan spell within the same association of no longer than one year), qualify for List B.

“Brian Madjo’s situation remains fluid as UEFA permits changes to the squad roster up to the day before the Super Cup match.”

With the Super Cup encounter approaching, Aston Villa continue preparations with squad decisions subject to potential last-minute updates.
