Two Men Jailed After Gun and Class A Drugs Seized Following Police Chase Ending in Crash

Two men have been jailed following a police chase that ended with the recovery of a firearm and Class A drugs from a stolen vehicle. On May 5, around 10 a.m., officers spotted a suspicious Ford Fiesta on Wood Lane, West Bromwich. The driver, Tammem Miah, attempted to evade police by speeding through red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road.

During the chase, several drivers had to swerve onto the pavement to avoid collision with Miah’s reckless driving before he ultimately crashed into another vehicle. Fortunately, the other driver was not seriously injured.

The pursuit ended on Arthur Road in Tipton, where Miah tried to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended. Police recovered a revolver, ammunition, heroin, and crack cocaine from his bag. A subsequent search of an associated address uncovered additional Class A drugs and drug paraphernalia linked to Mohammed Ahmed.

Miah, 23, of High Street, Tipton, pleaded guilty to multiple charges including possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and receiving stolen goods. He was sentenced to nine years imprisonment at Birmingham Crown Court on December 10.

Ahmed, also 23, and residing on Arthur Road, admitted possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and was sentenced to two years and six months in prison.

Detective Constable Kyle Bowering from the Major Crime Team commented, “Miah was armed with a potentially lethal weapon and showed blatant disregard for public safety while trying to avoid capture. He endangered numerous lives during the pursuit. The seizure of Class A drugs from both individuals prevents further harm to the community, as drug trafficking often fuels additional criminal activity. Both men are now appropriately behind bars.”
