Two dilemmas and no Marvin Ducksch – Birmingham City predicted XI for Hull showdown

Birmingham City head to Hull City on Saturday with an eye on extending their recent positive run in the Championship. After a series of adjustments, manager Chris Davies finally settled on a winning lineup in last weekend’s victory over Wrexham, and the old saying “never change a winning team” seems apt heading into this important fixture.

However, with three games packed into a week—including home matches against Bristol City and Preston—Davies may well consider rotating his squad to keep players fresh and motivated for the season’s final stretch.

One potential change could involve Ethan Laird earning a starting spot at right-back in place of Bright Osayi-Samuel. Although Osayi-Samuel delivered one of his best performances recently, Laird is an option that could be deployed, perhaps against Bristol City midweek.

The rest of the defensive line appears secure: Phil Neumann forming a reliable partnership with Christoph Klarer, while Kai Wagner’s standout return last weekend cements his place at left-back.

In midfield, Jhon Solis is expected to start despite being substituted at halftime against Wrexham due to a caution. The real question is whether Paik Seung-ho’s energetic outing and first assist of the season will inspire Davies to replace Tomoki Iwata, or stick with Iwata’s combative style to counter Hull’s resilient approach.

Up front, Davies faces fewer decisions. Marvin Ducksch’s recent drink-driving charge sidelines him from contention, opening the door for Jay Stansfield and August Priske, who have started to build a promising attacking partnership.

Fans are likely to support continuing with Stansfield and Priske—both contracted until 2031—to develop synergy for next season.

Wide attacking options appear straightforward as well. Carlos Vicente, favored on the road over Patrick Roberts, has made an impact since his £7 million move from Deportivo Alaves, while Ibrahim Osman’s current form deserves recognition.

After weighing all considerations, it looks like Davies will stick with the same lineup that delivered success last weekend:

(4-2-3-1): Beadle; Osayi-Samuel, Neumann, Klarer, Wagner; Solis, Iwata; Vicente, Stansfield, Osman; Priske.
