Chris Davies lauded Birmingham City’s resilience after ending a difficult run by securing a 1-0 victory against Queens Park Rangers at St Andrew’s on Wednesday.
The match-winning goal came from Patrick Roberts, and although the scoreline was tight, Blues dominated the game and created multiple chances. This crucial win lifted Birmingham City to 10th place in the Championship, narrowing the gap to the play-off spots to just five points and boosting team morale.
“It was an extremely important win for us,” stated Davies. “We’ve faced some tough moments over the last ten days, so to bounce back with such a performance showed great character.

“We played with real intent and I believe we could have scored more than once. The way we stretched the opposition, created space, and linked up on the flanks—especially one winger setting up another for the goal—was very satisfying.
“Defensively we were solid throughout, and even when QPR pushed forward, we remained organized and united.”
While ambitious about the future, Davies tempered expectations regarding promotion. Despite recent flirtations with the play-offs, he stressed steady progress and long-term growth as priorities.
“We now have 52 points — more than the team managed last time they were in this league, where they struggled near relegation,” Davies explained. “We’re making strong strides, and I focus solely on each next game rather than the play-offs.
“This division demands consistency and patience. The teams at the top have built themselves over years, and that’s what we’re aiming for with continuity and development.
“Tonight’s win was a significant step forward, confirming we are here to stay in this league. Our initial goal, as a promoted side, was survival, and we’re doing that well.
“Yes, we want to finish as high as possible and will push until the end — trust me on that — but the reality is that the Championship is a tough, unforgiving division.
“We’ve demonstrated we can compete, celebrated big victories, and delivered fantastic performances. Though we’ve faced setbacks, our response has always been strong.”
