Two men were arrested following a violent knife attack on a high-speed train in Cambridgeshire on Sunday, which left up to 11 people needing hospital treatment. Among them, two remain in critical condition.
According to British Transport Police, the suspects—a 32-year-old Black British man and a 35-year-old British man of Caribbean descent—are being questioned at separate police stations. The incident occurred shortly after the train departed Peterborough station, though it is still unclear when the suspects boarded.
An eyewitness present at the scene reported a chilling detail about the arrest. Viorel, a 42-year-old taxi driver, told MailOnline he witnessed one suspect running past his vehicle holding a large kitchen knife. Moments later, police arrived and subdued the man with a Taser. During the arrest, the man reportedly shouted the words “kill me, kill me, kill me” repeatedly at the officers.

Viorel described the chaos: “As soon as I saw the passenger, a few minutes later I saw everyone running out of the station. Then, 10 seconds later, a man dressed in black with a huge kitchen knife ran past my car at 7.47pm. The police arrived seconds later, and I could hear him shouting ‘kill me, kill me, kill me’ to them. They Tasered him, and as soon as he was down, they told him to drop his weapon. I didn’t understand the gravity until after I left and saw the large police presence. I was shocked—then I knew it was serious.”
Investigations continue to determine the motive behind the attack, though police have ruled out terrorism. Officials have urged the public not to speculate as inquiries proceed.
The attack has drawn significant national attention, with statements from prominent figures. King Charles III expressed his horror, stating, “I am truly appalled and shocked to hear of the dreadful knife attack. Our deepest sympathy and thoughts are with all those affected, and their loved ones.”
