August has arrived and with soaring temperatures, many families are looking for ways to keep children entertained and cool during the school holidays. Fortunately, a variety of shopping centres and local venues around Birmingham are hosting free summer events that are perfect for families.

At McArthurGlen Designer Outlet, children can meet popular TV characters every Tuesday throughout August, providing fun photo opportunities and memorable experiences. Over at Merry Hill, the beloved artisan market makes a welcome return this weekend, offering a delightful range of handmade goods and an enjoyable atmosphere for a leisurely browse.

New additions at the Brierley Hill centre include a cupcake locker, where visitors can pre-order and collect cakes ideal for picnics, alongside a new Netflix Booth experience that is free to explore.

For those venturing to Solihull, the Touchwood Summer Sessions have returned with a free beach area available daily until Monday 31 August. Families can also enjoy £1 meals for children at the Slug and Lettuce. Similarly, New Square Shopping Centre in West Bromwich offers free attractions including a beach, crazy golf, and Toy Story-themed activities until Sunday 30 August.

Outside the shopping centres, Becketts Farm in Wythall invites visitors to daily garden parties amidst stunning sunflower fields, with free entry throughout the summer.

In unfortunate news, Birmingham Beach, a popular free summer attraction, has been forced to close early due to unforeseen circumstances, concluding operations on 2 August.
