Top Five Most Popular Destinations from Birmingham Airport in September

As the summer school holidays come to a close, travel preferences at Birmingham Airport are shifting away from family holidays towards trips taken solo, with friends, or as couples. This change is reflected in the passenger traffic recorded last September, which saw a 2.7 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

In September 2025, Birmingham Airport handled 1,346,071 passengers. Among these travellers, five destinations emerged as the most popular routes by passenger numbers. These were Dublin, Palma de Mallorca, Dubai, Alicante, and Amsterdam.

Dublin, Palma de Mallorca, and Alicante continue to be consistently favoured, having been identified in July 2026 as some of the airport’s top holiday destinations. Similarly, in May 2026, Dublin, Mallorca, Amsterdam, and Alicante featured again among Birmingham Airport’s most sought-after locations.

Nick Barton, CEO of Birmingham Airport, remarked on the ongoing success: “September has been another great month at Birmingham Airport with additional growth reported year-on-year for passenger volume.”

Looking ahead, several new routes are being introduced, particularly by Jet2.com, which plans to offer flights to prime skiing destinations across the French, Austrian, Swiss, and Italian Alps, as well as to the Tyrolean Mountains. For the Winter 2027/28 season, over 56,000 ski seats will be available with flights scheduled at both weekend and weekday times.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, expressed enthusiasm about the expanded ski programme: “We enjoyed another successful ski season last winter, and with skiers and snowboarders already looking ahead to Winter 27/28, we have responded by launching our ski programme for next winter from Birmingham Airport. With perfectly timed flights at the most popular times and a range of airports to fly into, we are certain next year’s ski programme will be our best yet.”
