‘This made me want to cry’ – Brummies moved by nursery’s heartwarming seaside trip that grew fourfold

In one of the most touching stories of 2026 so far, a simple nursery trip from Birmingham blossomed into a memorable seaside outing for nearly 200 people.

What started as a modest day trip planned by Little Adventures Organic Nursery & Preschool in Washwood Heath to Weston-super-Mare unexpectedly expanded when numerous family members expressed their desire to join.

For many of those attending, this marked their very first visit to the seaside. Rather than limiting the trip, nursery staff responded by arranging four coaches instead of one, warmly inviting parents, grandparents, and siblings to take part.

A total of 192 people journeyed to the beach together, creating a joyful atmosphere captured in photographs that have since delighted many across the local community.

Public reaction to the story was overwhelmingly positive. One viewer commented, “OK, this made me want to cry. What a beautiful story in a news cycle that’s often negative.” Others described the images as “absolutely adorable” and simply “beautiful,” celebrating the evident happiness of all involved.

Karen Gordon, nursery manager, reflected on the experience: “We’ve received so many lovely messages from parents afterwards thanking us for organising the trip and telling us how much it meant to them. For many of our children, it was their first visit to the seaside, and seeing their excitement when they reached the beach was something none of us will forget. It really showed what can happen when a community comes together.”

Little Adventures Organic Nursery & Preschool is part of the Family Adventures Group, founded by Tom and Laura Filer. This husband-and-wife team is dedicated to enhancing indoor play and childcare, reinforcing the belief that meaningful shared experiences significantly contribute to children’s learning, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.

This remarkable outing not only provided a day of joy for families but also highlighted the strength found in community connections and shared moments.
