Many of Birmingham’s popular attractions close their doors on Christmas Eve, often remaining shut until Boxing Day or later. For those not dining out at a pub or restaurant, finding something to do on Christmas Day can be a real challenge.
While the beloved Birmingham Christmas Market wraps up on Christmas Eve, and Ice Skate Birmingham along with the Big Wheel take a break on December 25, there is one local venue that offers festive fun on Christmas Day itself.
Planet Ice in Solihull is opening its doors from 10am to 12pm, inviting visitors of all ages to enjoy a magical ice skating experience. Known for being open every day of the year, Planet Ice boasts a sparkling ice rink perfect for creating cherished holiday memories.

After skating, guests can also enjoy a selection of food and drinks to warm up and relax. A spokesperson encouraged everyone to “embark on a frosty adventure at Planet Ice and craft memories that will last a lifetime. Ready to take to the ice?”
To ensure a spot, booking in advance is recommended. Conveniently, there is parking available right outside the rink, though standard charges apply.
While Christmas Day has limited options, other festive activities are available between Christmas and New Year, including The Snowman™ trail at Baddesley Clinton, the Birmingham Hippodrome’s pantomime Robin Hood, ice skating at Warwick Castle and the Snowdome, and Winter Funland at Birmingham NEC.
