In the quiet neighborhood of Stirchley, Birmingham, a home on Greenoak Crescent holds more than just memories—it harbors a mysterious presence that has fascinated the Andrews family for decades.
The story begins in 1926, when Henry and Alice Andrews first moved into their council house. Over the years, the property remained in the family, passing to their son Francis in 1980 for £6,000. Today, Francis’ wife Daphne and their son Neil call the house home, where tales of the supernatural have quietly become part of everyday life.
The family’s eerie experiences started in 2010 when Neil and Daphne encountered a dark shadowy figure—an apparition that has since appeared countless times. Neil, now 59, confides that while the presence has frightened him, he believes it is the spirit of a beloved family pet.

“There’s a ghost in the house—a black shadow that we see occasionally,” Neil shared with BirminghamLive. “At first, my mom and I thought we were imagining things, but then other people started seeing it too. It looks like a smoky shadow and has been spotted in my bedroom and in the hall. One time, it even hovered above me as I walked down the stairs, which was pretty scary.”
The shadow has become so familiar that when Daphne’s friend noticed it during a visit, Daphne simply reassured her, “Oh, that’s just the ghost.” What once sparked fear has now settled into a curious and accepted part of life in this century-old family home.
