Tesco Cuts Fuel Prices at 500 UK Forecourts, Benefiting Petrol and Diesel Drivers

Tesco has announced a price reduction on fuel at all 500 of its petrol stations throughout the UK. Diesel prices will drop by 5p per litre, while unleaded petrol will be reduced by 2p per litre. This move comes amid signs of easing tensions in the Gulf region as the US and Iran appear close to reaching an agreement.

To locate the nearest Tesco Petrol Filling Station, customers can use Tesco’s official store locator tool. It is important to note Tesco’s safety regulations regarding fuel containers: only authorised plastic or metal containers are allowed. Plastic containers must not exceed 10 litres, whereas metal containers can hold up to 20 litres.

All petrol containers must be clearly marked with the words “PETROL” and “HIGHLY FLAMMABLE,” along with a hazard warning sign, capacity in litres, the manufacturer’s name, and the date and month of manufacture. Customers are permitted to fill a maximum of two petrol containers.

Legally, private individuals may store up to 30 litres of petrol without notifying the Petroleum Enforcement Authority.

Tesco emphasizes that fuel prices vary by location and time, stating: “Like other major petrol retailers in the UK, we don’t have one national price for fuel. We work hard to be competitive in all areas, including the services and ranges offered within our kiosks and on our forecourts. Since fuel prices often change, we’re unable to list them here. Please visit your local Tesco Petrol Filling Station to find out the latest prices.”

According to the AA motoring group, petrol prices have fallen by 4.6p per litre—from 159.7p on 28 May to 155.1p this week. Diesel prices declined by 9.3p, from 184.4p to 175.1p per litre in the same time frame. The AA credits these reductions partly to the government’s Fuel Finder price comparison scheme launched in February.

Luke Bosdet from the AA commented, “We have been surprised at the speed of the reductions and concluded that this is the influence of Fuel Finder: retailers seeing how much rivals are cutting their prices and, knowing that drivers can see the same information, having to respond.”
