Tamworth shoppers have voiced strong opinions following Marks & Spencer’s announcement of a major overhaul to its parking layout at the Ventura Retail Park. Construction began on Wednesday, marking the start of a 12-week initiative designed to ease congestion and expand parking capacity for a more convenient shopping experience.
In an official statement, the store shared, “CAR PARK UPDATE – EXCITING IMPROVEMENTS COMING! Great news — we’ve listened to your feedback, and after many years of planning, work will begin this week to improve our car park! Starting Wednesday 27th May.” They added, “We appreciate your patience while these improvements are underway — it’ll be worth it for a smoother, easier experience when you visit us! #mandslocal.”
The project plans to tackle longstanding issues by redesigning traffic flow and expanding spaces. However, shoppers have taken to social media to express diverse views. One customer suggested relocating parent and child spaces further from the store entrance to provide larger spots, noting that not all who need accessible parking necessarily hold Blue Badges.

Others recommended reinstating the previous cut-through route, proposing it be combined with one-way traffic and relocating parent and child parking to safer areas to reduce congestion. Some suggested adding speed humps to curb speeding and improve pedestrian safety.
Despite some support for the changes, concerns remain. A local shopper warned that introducing two-way traffic in the car park could increase accident risks, emphasizing the difficulty of maneuvering in tight spots under current conditions. Another concern was the new three-hour parking limit, which some feel discourages leisurely visits like shopping or dining.
While opinions vary, one thing is clear: the parking changes at Marks & Spencer in Tamworth’s Ventura Retail Park have ignited a lively community discussion about balancing convenience, safety, and accessibility.
