Tamworth Ranked Among Happiest Towns in the Midlands and UK

Tamworth, a Staffordshire town located north east of Birmingham, has been recognised as one of the happiest places to live in both the West Midlands and the country. Known for its excellent transport links making it an attractive commuter location, the town also benefits from being close to picturesque countryside and smaller villages where life moves at a gentler pace.

These surrounding areas offer numerous opportunities for family outings, picnics, dog walking and hiking, factors likely contributing to the strong community satisfaction reported by residents. The town ranked fifth among the happiest places in the Midlands and was positioned 33rd nationally, outscoring many areas that might typically be expected to rank higher.

Average house prices in Tamworth stand at approximately £229,000, which is notably lower than many other parts of the region. This affordability may also play a role in the town’s appeal.

The rankings were published following surveys conducted by property firm Rightmove, which asked local residents to rate their happiness with living in their home towns. Factors examined included the condition of the high street, cleanliness, availability of green spaces, and the overall atmosphere.

Within the Midlands, Leamington Spa was named the happiest town, ranking 12th nationally, followed by Lichfield, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Shrewsbury. Conversely, more urban and industrial areas such as those in the Black Country, along with Birmingham, featured towards the lower end of the list. Walsall, for example, was ranked 216th out of 220, making it the fifth unhappiest place in the country.
