After months of enforced 30mph restrictions, this essential refurbishment project has reached a significant milestone. Since early 2025, National Highways has been undertaking a major overhaul of the 38-year-old Saltash Tunnel to modernize its systems. “Our tunnel systems have been in operation for over 20 years,” explained Julian Mitchell, National Highways’ tunnel manager.
