A women’s clothing retailer in Sutton Coldfield’s town centre has once again closed its doors unexpectedly, leaving locals and business leaders perplexed. Fabrik, which had been operating out of the former Topshop and Topman premises in the Gracechurch Centre since October 2021, has a history of abrupt closures and comebacks.
The store initially closed in September 2022, stripping the interior bare, only to reopen the following summer as if nothing had happened. However, in March 2024, Fabrik vanished once more, taking down all clothing displays with no official explanation or notice to customers.
Even members of the Visit Royal Sutton Coldfield Business Improvement District (BID), responsible for supporting and promoting the town’s businesses, expressed their uncertainty. Posting on Facebook alongside a photo of the empty storefront, the BID stated, “At this stage, we’re unsure whether the closure is permanent, as the business has closed and reopened in the past. We’ll share any confirmed updates as and when we receive them.”

Following Fabrik’s latest closure, the owners of the Gracechurch Centre — Birmingham Property Group and SAV Group — announced plans to transform the vacant space into a community-oriented hub. Their vision includes a ground-floor café, a dedicated children’s play area, and a venue for local events, gatherings, and collaborative efforts.
As of now, the future of the shop remains unclear, but proposals for revitalizing the space aim to bring new life to the heart of Sutton Coldfield’s town centre.
