Strictly’s Karen Hauer Breaks Down Recalling Late Co-Star Dave Myers

Strictly Come Dancing professional Karen Hauer was visibly moved to tears as she fondly recalled her late co-star and former dance partner, Dave Myers, during a heartfelt segment on the show’s spin-off, It Takes Two.

Karen, who is now the longest-serving professional dancer on Strictly following Anton du Beke’s move to the judging panel, reflected on her 14-year journey with the series. She expressed gratitude to Anton, saying, “When I came onto Strictly, I had no idea I’d be here for 14 years. Anton is now a judge, so that means I’ve taken the place of the longest-serving professional dancer. Thank you, Anton.”

The emotional moment came as Karen reminisced about dancing with Dave Myers, the Hairy Biker, in 2013, during her second year on the show. She recalled the joy and creativity he brought to the partnership. “Dave Myers was the first celebrity that I danced with who showed me how to be happy. We were dancing a salsa, and he came up with the idea of being pushed in a trolley while I had a head full of fruit and he had maracas and ruffles. We were laughing together and wanted everyone to join in the fun,” she shared.

Karen reflected on how Dave helped unlock her confidence and sense of fun on the show. “I was quite lost with who I wanted to be on the show and how I wanted to present myself. Dave unlocked that key for me and showed me how to truly have fun,” she said through tears. “He showed me how to make fun of myself. Since then, I’ve definitely taken that on board. He took care of me and I just miss him. Sorry.”

Dave Myers sadly passed away in February 2024 after a brave battle with cancer. His close friend and Hairy Bikers co-star, Si King, paid a moving tribute on social media, expressing his profound grief and gratitude for the support they had received. Si wrote, “My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime… I wish you god’s speed, brother. See you on the other side. Love ya.”

Si also thanked fans for their kindness, saying, “I know Dave and his family would want me to thank all of you who sent messages of support in recent times. It meant the world to him, his family, and all The Hairy Bikers team. We are eternally grateful.”
