State Pensioners Urged to Act as Automatic £300 DWP Winter Fuel Payments End

State pensioners are being reminded that the automatic £300 Winter Fuel Payment from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will no longer be made automatically for 2026. To ensure you receive this support, the deadline to claim is January 28, 2026. If you believe you are eligible but have not received payment, it is essential to get in touch with the DWP promptly.

Typically, individuals born before September 22, 1959, and residing in England or Wales qualify for the Winter Fuel Payment. The exact amount paid depends on your circumstances during the ‘qualifying week’ from September 15 to 21, 2025. Eligibility and payment amounts may also be influenced by whether you receive other benefits such as Pension Credit, Income Support, Universal Credit, or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

If you live alone or no one else in your household qualifies, you may be entitled to a higher amount. Couples jointly claiming certain benefits may receive a payment as well. The DWP will send letters in October or November 2025 confirming payment amounts for eligible recipients. If you do not receive a letter but think you are eligible, you should submit a claim to avoid missing out.

To claim, pensioners can complete a form available from the DWP and mail it to Winter Fuel Payment Centre, Mail Handling Site A, Wolverhampton, WV98 1LR. Alternatively, you can call 0800 731 0160 for assistance.

Importantly, receiving the Winter Fuel Payment will not affect your other benefits, so don’t hesitate to apply if you qualify.
