State Pensioners to Receive £70 Cost of Living Support Payments from Tomorrow

State pensioners across Wakefield will soon receive new £70 vouchers to help with rising living costs. Between Tuesday, November 11 and Thursday, November 13, 2025, Wakefield Council is issuing these Household Support Fund (HSF) vouchers on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

These vouchers, intended to be spent in supermarkets, target pensioners who currently receive Council Tax Support and the Winter Fuel Allowance—primarily those on Pension Credit. Recipients won’t need to apply, as the vouchers are distributed automatically.

Wakefield Council advises residents to allow up to 14 days for the voucher to arrive by post. The letter accompanying the voucher will include clear instructions on how to redeem it. Importantly, the voucher does not have to be used in one go; it can be redeemed multiple times until the full £70 value is used.

The council also issued a warning about fraudulent messages falsely claiming eligibility for Household Support Fund payments and requesting bank details. Residents are urged to ignore such scams, as genuine vouchers are only issued via letter and never require bank information.

Eligibility extends to individuals living in the Wakefield district aged over 16, who are responsible for paying rent, mortgage, or other household bills, and have limited income to cover essential expenses. Notably, those without recourse to public funds may still qualify for support.

Wakefield Council remains committed to providing assistance and ensuring that those in need receive the support they deserve during these challenging times.
