Stalker Ex-Boyfriend Threatened to Outdo Raoul Moat’s Violence

Peter Ellery, a 38-year-old man from Smethwick, terrorised his ex-girlfriend with chilling threats and controlling behaviour after their relationship ended. Ellery warned her, “I will make Raoul Moat look like a f***ing minor,” referencing the notorious 2010 Northumberland gunman who killed his ex and others.

During their relationship, Ellery exerted extreme control, dictating who she could speak to, accusing her of infidelity over simple actions like going to the bathroom at night, and threatening to harm himself if she left him. He monitored her phone obsessively and forced male friends from the room to isolate her.

When his ex finally ended the relationship, Ellery escalated his abusive behaviour. He sent threatening messages such as “I’m watching your every move” and even tracked trivial details like her toilet roll usage. Beyond harassing her, he contacted her family and friends with violent threats, including plans to shoot everyone at her residence.

Ellery admitted to controlling and coercive behaviour, as well as stalking causing serious alarm or distress. At Birmingham Crown Court on February 6, he was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

Judge Sarah Buckingham delivered a scathing rebuke, describing Ellery as a self-obsessed narcissist with low self-esteem who refuses to accept responsibility for his actions. She highlighted his past criminal record and challenged his claims of disability affecting his work ability.

The judge further warned that until Ellery recognises his flaws, he remains a danger to current and future partners. A restraining order prohibits him from contacting his ex-girlfriend.

This case underscores the severe psychological and emotional toll of coercive control and stalking, with the justice system taking a strong stance against such abuse.
